2nd AMENDMENT
America has a strong history of ownership. As a gun owner myself, I refuse to engage in practice and policy that will infringe upon your right to carry ant bear arms; but instead push for policy that will enable the freedoms of self defence and public safety.
In the State Senate, I will introduce a Freedom for Firearms bill ensuring that firearms and ammunition manufactured and sold in Colorado, and remain in Colorado, are not subject to federal regulation.
PROTECTING LIFE
I am, and always have been, pro life. From the miracle of conception to a dignified death, life is precious and should be protected. The federal government has no business forcing taxpayers to pay for abortions.
Having said that..
I believe that it is not the place of a state legislator to engage in social issues directly. Those kinds of decisions are reserved to the people. I do oppose partial-birth abortion, however should the life of the mother be at stake, I refuse to be a factor in the tough decisions families must make.
From a political perspective, I will Reject any legislation providing governmental funding of abortions in our state.
I do support parental notification/parental consent legislation.
DEATH PENALTY
I'm in strong support of Colorado families having the right to justice -- I support Colorado's laws on capital punishment.
IMMIGRATION
I support legal immigration and I believe much of this country’s strength and prosperity has come as a result of the immense contributions immigrants have made. We have historically welcomed the best workers and the best minds from every country, and I believe we should continue to do so provided it is done legally. We are a nation built on the rule of law, and immigration laws — like all laws — must be enforced. While I believe immigration reform is needed, I believe reform starts with securing the border. Although, Colorado is not border state, border enforcement should be followed by interior enforcement here at home. I’m opposed to amnesty.
CARD CHECK
I’m opposed to Card Check legislation because I believe the private ballot must be protected and I’m opposed to giving government bureaucrats control of the workplace. Workers should continue to have the protection of a secret ballot. It prevents unions from intimidating workers, and it ensures a fair outcome for both workers and employers. If this legislation were to pass, it has been estimated that it would reduce employment opportunities by over 750,000 potential jobs in the economy within two years.
